CONTINUING CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORMS
Leaders in Washtenaw County have placed an emphasis on unwinding past harms of the criminal justice system and ensuring that defendants, victims, and witnesses are treated fairly no matter their race, gender, sexual orientation, or income. Jennifer believes in continuing to strengthen these reforms, and recognizes that all judges must be focused on rehabilitation rather than punitive measures. If elected, Jennifer will partner with other members of the Bench, elected leaders, law enforcement, and attorneys to ensure that the legal system is working collaboratively to undo past injustices, promote equality and compassion, and consider novel developments in criminal justice reform.
PROTECTING THE RIGHTS OF VULNERABLE PERSONS
Jennifer is committed to ensuring that Washtenaw County Probate Court serves as a strong protector of the rights of vulnerable individuals. As judge, she will uphold safeguards for seniors, minors, and persons with disabilities through careful oversight, transparency, and adherence to due process. Jennifer believes in promoting policies that strengthen guardianship accountability, expand access to essential resources, and ensure fair treatment in every proceeding. It is critical that our courts respect individual autonomy and seek resolutions which respect and implement the least restrictive means possible in guardianship matters. Guided by integrity and equity, Jennifer will make the Probate Court a model for protecting those who cannot always protect themselves.
FAMILY LAW CENTERED ON UNDERSTANDING
Families often come into contact with our court system only when seeking help with deeply personal matters such as divorce or child custody. A new judge must recognize not only the legal complexities of these cases but also the emotional challenges they bring. Understanding, empathy, and patience are essential qualities for handling family law matters effectively and compassionately. It is critical that every individual who comes before the court feels heard, respected, and treated with fairness, regardless of their circumstances. A judge who approaches family law with both legal precision and human understanding helps foster trust in the judicial system and promotes resolutions that serve the best interests of all involved.
